HP Inc. and manroland Goss sign reseller agreement for Digital Finishing Systems
In a move that manroland Goss CEO Franz Kriechbaum describes as ‘setting new standards in digital printing’, HP Inc. has signed a reseller agreement to distribute two digital finishing lines, FormerLine and FoldLine, adapted to HP’s PageWide Web Press inkjet presses.
The FormerLine is ideally suited for producing book blocks, short print runs, customized titles, and on-demand projects. Its innovative roll-to-book block technology enables the efficient and cost-effective manufacturing of print runs of up to 10,000 copies in industrial digital printing. Combined with HP PageWide Web Press systems, this creates a highly productive environment for industrial digital book printing, achieving a throughput of up to 7,000 book blocks per hour, each with 160 pages.
The FoldLine handles newspapers, commercial print, and direct mail reliably and efficiently. As a true multi-purpose system, it covers applications ranging from classic newspaper formats to stitched products and book block production. Designed for high web speeds of up to 305 m/min, FoldLine delivers exceptional production performance and flexibility.
This agreement extends a long-standing collaboration between the two manufacturers. It covers inline configurations for book and newspaper printers, with fully automated production workflows.
Barbara McManus, Vice President and General Manager of HP PageWide, says: “We know that HP PageWide presses are already favoured by leading book printers because they offer unrivalled productivity, versatility and quality. By working with partners like manroland Goss, we are now able to offer a more complete solution that enables printers to transfer a growing proportion of their inefficient and costly analogue production to a digital environment, and thus grow their business.”
Both the FormerLine and FoldLine are based on the Pecom-X automation platform developed by manroland Goss. The system is designed to reduce the need for operator intervention, and to ensure uninterrupted workflows.
One of the world’s largest web press manufacturers, manroland Goss is regularly looking to diversify from just building presses, previously buying companies that make peripheral products, such as Harland Simon, Thallo web packaging business, GWS Systems and launching GPD Foodpackaging Co.
HP and manroland Goss have previously worked together in a long-term strategic collaboration, already running three HP PageWide T490HD mono digital presses equipped with inline FormerLine systems at Bertelsmann Marketing Services book printing subsidiary GGP Media in Poessneck, Germany. This setup can produce more than 400,000 books per week, involving 135m printed pages and 11m signatures, ‘fully automated and without manual intervention between jobs’.
