Following on from a series of successful nationwide dealer events, it is the customers’ turn to find out more about Mimaki’s versatile new UJ330H-160 hybrid UV printer, which facilitates roll and rigid printing applications all on the one machine.

Several current and potential customers turned up to the company’s Sydney premises this week, with similar events locked in for May 5th & 6th (Melbourne) and May 12th & 13th (Brisbane). Kohei Kobayashi, Managing Director of Mimaki Australia, said at the event: “We’re particularly excited about this printer because of its versatility. Our 330 Series has already been recognised globally for exceptional image quality and production output. But with the introduction of the UJ330H-160, these strengths have now been extended to a hybrid platform that now allows sign makers and commercial printers to produce both roll and rigid applications on one machine. This is a direct reflection of what we’re seeing as the evolving needs of our customers, who are seeking greater flexibility and more in-house capability.”

“Another huge benefit of this printer is that, in spite of this flexibility, it is quite compact. For many businesses where floor space and capital investment need to be carefully considered, it removes the need for multiple devices.”

Designed to switch seamlessly between roll media and rigid board, the UJ330H-160 enables businesses to consolidate production across signage, display graphics, window films and fabric applications. A newly developed belt transport system ensures stable media handling for thin films and textiles, reducing common issues such as creasing and misfeeding, particularly beneficial for retail fit outs and exhibition graphics.

Speaking to Matt Jarvis and Adam Evans from Guru Labels, a busy label printing company operating up in Sydney’s Central Coast, Mimaki Australia Sales Channel Manager NSW, Roger Corby, adds: “Rigid production in Australia has traditionally required mounting, outsourcing or dedicated flatbed equipment, but the UJ330H-160 changes that equation. With its Auto-Vacuum system and front and rear lock rollers, businesses can confidently run large aluminium composite panels or thick foam boards in-house, improving turnaround times and protecting margin. This hybrid capability addresses a longstanding production gap in the local industry.”

At the core of the printer is a high-density, high-definition print engine delivering consistent solids, smooth gradients and premium finish quality at production speeds of up to 14.0m²/h. Automated adjustment functions further simplify operation, allowing consistent output without the need for highly specialised training, a key advantage in today’s skills-constrained environment.

The UJ330H-160 also incorporates UV inks formulated without SVHC and CMR substances, supporting safer workplace standards and alignment with increasingly stringent environmental expectations.

Integrated workflow tools, including RasterLink7 RIP software for multilayer and high-build effects, gloss and matte finishes, alongside the PICT cloud-based monitoring platform, provide end-to-end visibility from production through to management.

For Australian sign makers and commercial printers, the introduction of the UJ330H-160 looks to deliver some meaningful operational advantages:

– the ability to diversify applications without expanding floor space;

– the ability to bring rigid production in-house, reducing the need for outsourcing;

– much improved turnaround times.

Kobayashi concludes: “This is about giving Australian print businesses the flexibility and efficiency they need to grow sustainably. The UJ330H-160 empowers them to do more with less complexity and to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.”
