Inkjet to print newspapers
So you thought your inkjet printer was fast??? It has been reported that MAN Roland, a leading manufacturer of offset sheet and web fed presses (nothing to do with Roland DG) and Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group have signed a letter-of-intent to work towards the high speed production of newspapers at up to 90,000 copies per hour.
A system will be demonstrated at Drupa in May this year.
The system is based on Kodak’s Versamark DS6240 inkjet head and can run at full press speeds of up to 90,000 copies per hour on the MAN Roland ColorMAN XXL press, according to Anton Hamm, MAN Roland’s executive vice president, business unit newspaper production systems.
The software controlling the print heads runs on the MAN Roland’s Pecom press control system, Hamm said.
