HP restructures print division
Its being reported in the USA that Hewlett-Packard Co. is restructuring it’s printer division by cutting five business groups down to three in a cost saving exercise. No official release has been issued to this affect as yet.
The reports indicate that the three remaining groups will include: laser printers and corporate customers; graphics for print services; and inkjet and Web products for consumers and small businesses. The company said today’s changes will provide resources to invest in those key markets.
The company has reported recently that the domestic printer market has shrunk and this is affecting all manufacturers. It’s been known for a long time that the profit in these small printer sales is very small. The profit comes from the ink cartridge sales.
It is not clear at this stage what affect this move will have on the professional printers including the wide format and grand format printers, if any.
