3M files lawsuit to enforce its patent rights in paint protection films

3M filed a patent infringement lawsuit in federal district court in Minnesota on Dec. 29, 2015, against XPEL Technologies Corporation.
The suit alleges that XPEL Technologies Corporation’s XPF paint protection film product infringes 3M’s U.S. Patent No. 8,765,263.
3M develops paint protection film products which protect the finish of a vehicle from scratches, stains, bug acids and rock chips. 3M’s paint protection film products are among the more than 1,000 different products for body-in-white, paint, chassis, powertrain, interior and exterior applications that the company’s automotive division supplies the automotive industry.
