GASAA Greens Graduating … more ISO courses start mid Feb
Early in 2009 seven GASAA member firms based in NSW (representatives pictured below) will complete the GASAA "Truly Green" Environmental Management Course leading to ISO 14001.
The six month, fixed priced, certification course assists businesses to set up an Environmental Management System in compliance with ISO14001 international standards.

At the successful completion of the GASAA Course in February participants will receive at the graduation dinner the association’s highest “green rating” and certification. Then after some months of demonstrating continual improvement, and when the firm is ready an independent GASAA auditor from Standards Australia will be called in to conduct the final ISO certification … GASAA and course facilitator Paul Kohn will be around for the final hurdle.
The programme has been devised by Paul Kohn, a members of the ISO 14001 Standards Committee and Principal of AKP Leura, a leading consulting firm in management and control systems. Garry Knespal, GASAA Executive Officer who has worked closely with Paul and has sat through each session commented, "Participants have benefited from the group dynamic through sharing of best practices". "Paul Kohn has done a great job in reviewing the potential risks of the specific sites, providing a unique profile for participant to monitor and improve. At the same time he has helped members prepared in a group setting the core documentation required to gain ISO certification" remarked Mr Knespal.
Luke and Michelle Everingham, Principals of Shepson Printing and course participants have commented "its very good to have feedback from other companies doing the course with Shepson Printing – general discussions very helpful to share ideas and methods"
Charged at a fixed fee (with an option to pay by instalments) participants are secure in the knowledge they can budget for the investment rather than paying uncapped fees to an external consultant. Many cost savings have been realised as participants begin to implement environmental efficiencies within their own workplace. It would seem their staff are equally enthusiastic to play a part, as the positive feedback from participants suggests.
A second Sydney course is schedule to start on Friday 20 February, the day after the graduation dinner for the first Sydney group. Groups will start in Brisbane on the 11th February and Melbourne on the 18 February. Places are limited so call today to enquire how your business can get involved. Contact Gary Knespal on (02) 9386 1595 for more details or email [email protected]. Course details are also on the GASAA website at http://www.gasaa.asn.au/emc.asp
